Abstract

The Royal Danish Library (RDL), a merger of several historic libraries, serves as Denmark’s national and university library. It preserves and disseminates cultural heritage information and supports research and education. Acquired through legal deposits, donations, and acquisitions, the RDL’s holdings include millions of physical items, including books, manuscripts, and maps. The library also boasts a petabyte-scale digital repository, preserving web domains, e-books, newspapers, music, and radio and television recordings. Through preservation efforts and user-friendly interfaces, the RDL ensures global access to Denmark’s cultural legacy. Collaborations and partnerships enrich resources and expand accessibility. Future trends focus on the development of RDL as a unified library entity in optimizing the library infrastructure, leveraging emerging technologies, and managing the evolving landscape of digital publications.
