Abstract

Human behavioural adaptations to interglacial lakeshore environments31DANIEL GROSSISLANDS IN THE SWAMP. LAKESCAPE-RECONSTRUCTIONS OFMESOLITHIC SITES IN THE RHINLUCH AREA (GERMANY)AbstractThe Rhinluch area (Havelland District) in the state of Brandenburg, Germany is known for its excellentpreservation of early Mesolithic sites. The use of modern remote sensing techniques in combination withdetailed stratigraphic analyses provided comprehensive and extensive reconstructions of the early Holoceneenvironment in the area. It is shown how water-level reconstructions, peat-growth models and topographi-cal information were used to reconstruct the lakescape of early Holocene hunter-gatherers. Finally, olderenvironmental reconstructions are compared to the modern results on the basis of water-level and landmasscomparisons. The use of GIS software made it possible to simulate and evaluate the improved results andoptimize the picture of the Rhinluch in the early Holocene.
