Abstract

Climate change demands greater recycling to save resources. This is reflected in the national guidelines for elaborate waste sorting ‘fraction sorting’ - a crucial part of Danish climate politics. Approximately 3 million Danes live in housing with collective fraction sorting. Such waste facilities are typically found in high-rise and social housing. These housing types are also where fraction sorting is of the lowest quality and waste facilities have poor infrastructures for fraction sorting. This policy brief presents empirical findings from two social housing estates to show what we may learn from local communities who battle to solve the challenges.
