Ghosts in the gallery. Animated images from Rembrandt to Bendz

Abstract

Discussion of the concept of outreach in relation to how primarily 17th century gallery pictures work in order to grasp attention of beholders and transcend the deadly stillness of the picture surface. Comparisons are made between 17th century Dutch pictures and Danish early 19th century pictures.
