Abstract
The article addresses the conservator' work on conservaing and restoring more than 20 Dutch and German flower paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. The conservation work was a unique oppertunity for carrying out a range of in-depth technical studies of the materials and techniques emplyed by the artists. Sources from the artists' active years offer additional perspective.
