Abstract
In this paper we describenew methodsfor the acquisitionofemails from a broad range ofpeopleand organisationsnot directly connected withthe organizationresponsible forthe acquisition.Existing methods for acquisition of emails arebased either onhaving easy access to aninstitution’semail server,or a labour intensive processof transferring the emails from donors’email clients, involvingfor example visits to the individual donors.Furthermore, we describe how different representations of the acquisitioned emailsare ingested into our repository. The use of different representations makesit possible for us to perform a fine grained file characterisation, thereby facilitating the level of preservation watch we want in connection with the preservation of the acquisitioned emails
