Abstract
A thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the creation of Peder Severin Krøyer’s painting 'Roses' from 1893. The work is analyzed, and an interpretation of the artist’s personal relationship to the painting is offered. The article also provides insight into the painting’s reception at the time of its creation and its subsequent history.
