Abstract
During research on early 17th-century Flemish panel paintings, the personal marks of several panel makers have been recorded stamped into the wood. However, also marks written with a piece of red chalk have been found. They are hard to trace in normal light but by means of an ultraviolet (UV) lamp, the written marks become easier to read. Documentation of marks written with a red chalk crayon may be stored on UV fluorescence photographs.
