New Marette on-line: During the past years of training a new generation of conservators and curators interested in the history of panel making, their care and eventual structural treatment methods has emerged, and it has become increasingly evident that no comprehensive publication exists that encompasses the entire knowledge in this field. Again, the one publication that attempted this was ‘ e au XVIe ’, published only in French over 50 years ago.
Having been introduced to this vast body of knowledge it becomes evident that much of the information is still of great relevance to the field, including curators and collections managers, practising conservators with disciplines such as the structural treatment of panel paintings, furniture and wooden objects in general. It should, however, be clear that since 1961 much new research for the making of panel paintings has been conducted during examinations in galleries and museums. Combining this new information with a translated edition of ’s k insures that the work is kept current through footnotes referencing the latest research.
Furthermore, a multi-lingual glossary would extend the reach of the new publication yet further, ensuring that the core concepts and terminology are disseminated to the widest possible audience. The glossary and vocabulary will in The New Marette on-line be extended and beyond the original French-English also include languages such as Spanish, German and Italian.
Within the vision of the Getty PPI a specially formed project team therefore will submit the following proposal for The New Marette on-line.
