Description
Da de første hvalfangere og danske kolonister kom til Grønland i 1700-tallet medbragte de en lang række varer bl.a. europæisk tøj, glasperler, knapper og tekstiler. Europæiske dragtelementer fandt hurtigt deres vej til inuits klædedragt og europæerne lærte hurtigt at sætte pris på det varme og vandtætte skindtøj.
Projektet er en undersøgelse af, hvordan "fremmede" dragt- og smykkeelementer blev brugt og opfattet af inuit og europæere både funktionelt og som markør for social identitet; herunder individets position og gruppetilhørsforhold. I projektet sammenlignes dragtens sociale rolle i fire grønlandske og to canadiske regioner, hvor kulturmødernes længde og karakter er meget forskellige.
Post.doc projektet er støttet af Det Frie Forskningsråd for Kultur og Kommunikation med et DFF Forskertalent-stipendium under programmet Sapere Aude.
