The National Archives is the Danish collective memory, linking past, present, and future. The National Archives has the original sources to the development of Danish society in text, images, and numbers: stories about high and low, about everyday life and the history of great events in Danish history. As a research institution, the National Archives intermediate Denmark's history and provide new research and knowledge.  The research within the National Archives includes applied research into the history of Denmark as well as research of archival science and transferring of digital records to the archives. This research has as its specific purpose to provide scientific basis for the guiding The National Archives’ users and for decisions on archival appraisal. In its current research strategy, The National Archives emphasize in particularly the cultural history of crime.  Other centers of research is political history, history of the public administration, history of education, urban and regional history, business history, and the history of Southern Jutland (Sønderjylland).
