Description
Guild marks, panel makers' marks, master’s marks, sculptor’s and furniture makers’ marks, timber dealer’s marks, client’s marks, etc.: many art works bear marks which are related to the object’s date of manufacture. These offer unique information on art objects and their manufacturers, the date and location of manufacture and on the transport of the materials used. The RKD collaborates with a team of international experts and institutes to enter these types of marks into a database specially developed by the RKD: the MARKS ON ART database. This is in turn linked to RKDImages, so that the information entered always remains related to the art work concerned. The MARKS ON ART database will be important for authentication and dating of art works.Period | 26 May 2018 |
