Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675). Technique and Illusion.

Activity: Talk or presentationLecture and oral contribution

Description

This talk examines the painting techniques of Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675). The artist’s understanding of light and perspective, the use of a traditional, yet effectful way of creating convincing spatial illusions will be set against his proposed use of a camera obscura. Debatable attributions will be presented and placed within the techniques of the master both early and late in his career.
