A future for the past. The relationship between past, present and future and the significance of continuity and change.

Activity: Talk or presentationLecture and oral contribution

Description

Conservation-restoration is all about caring for the past and offering it a future. Changing ethical values and a profession moving from craftsmanship into academia influences our actions. Advanced scientific investigations and a public demand for authenticity and entertainment may for some be felt as alienating the vocation for caring. The relationship between past, present and the significance of continuity and change will be discussed in view of the role of the conservator-restorer.
