Abstract
The question concerning the airport capacity in Eastern Jutland has repeatedly been debated since the airport situated at Tirstrup was taken into use in 1946. This article will analyze on the debate concerning the possible new location for the regional airport in eastern Jutland in the period 1995-1999 while taking the political and administrative framework into consideration. Given the recent debate in Eastern Jutland where the location of the regional airport once again is an issue of much debate the case analysis seems highly topical. Key political players and questions are the same when comparing the two periods, not least the fact that the municipality of Aarhus in both cases have been the primary and initiating player. This article is based on a case study from my Ph.D.-analysis from 2011. To this is added several adjustments and updates based on recent research material and a summary of the recent historical development. The empirical analysis is largely based on the source material from former commercial director at Aarhus Municipality Michael O. Bruun. The case analysis is furthermore based on interviews with key political players from the period as well as review of reports, statistical data and literature.
