Abstract
The Danish Defence Museum has an extensive and very fine collection of military uniforms comprising raincoats, jackets, trousers and headwear which date from around 1600 to the present. Many of the uniforms are samples which have never been worn, but have been approved, because of their high quality of construction and materials, by the Danish Ministry of Defence. They were designed for use by horse guards, foot soldiers, officers and messengers. Regular visual inspections for the presence of insects among the Collections, gave conservation staff of the National Museum of Denmark an opportunity to study the construction, waterproof material types and their condition, with the purpose of improving the present storage climate of the special waterproof uniforms and, thereby, their longevity.
