Understanding Degradation Mechanisms in Artist's White Paints and their Impact on the Appearance of Artworks

This study investigates the degradation mechanisms of some problematic artist's paint on artworks. The motivation is to characterize the chemical behavior due to the presence of certain media, atmospheric pollutants and/or bacterium on different white paint from early to contemporary times, to better design conservation treatments and storage and exhibition strategies.
If results are successful this will be published in conjunction to the two other projects related to this topic. The second part of the project will be disseminated in conjunction with the Tal R project.
