Beskrivelse

The ancient Greek city of Sikyon – famous in antiquity for its political history, its schools of painting and sculpture and a number of inventions – was destroyed and relocated in 303 BC. The project aims at investigating the early city, at analysing its specific settlement structures, urban fabric and major architectonical elements, and at tracing the famous arts and crafts activities of Old Sikyon. After two years of non-invasive investigation and a first excavation campaign in 2017, more excavations are now carried out at the most promising spots in order to gather more detailed and chronological information about important structures and their development.
