CV

I am curator and senior researcher at the Art Museums of Skagen and since my employment at the museum in 2003 I have been interested in the history of the Skagen Painters and the phenomenon artists’ colonies in 19th century Western art. My research field is rethinking the (art) history of the Skagen Painters, especially the way art history about the artists’ colony in Skagen and the Skagen Painters has been written following the pattern of the history of other European artists’ colonies in the 19th century.

I am also immersed in the concept of ‘community’ and 'self-staging' and how this can be seen in the artists’ works of art, in the photographs from the artists’ colony in Skagen, and in the Skagen Painter's way to form networks.

Another research field is sick girls in Nordic art in the 19th century and from 2018 I was employed at Aarhus University in a post doc position where I was doing research on the subject sick girls in Nordic art 1850-1900.

My current research project deals with photography and its significance in the Skagen artists’ colony.
